Haitian school children |
In 2005, Acceso International established new projects in Haiti. While Acceso International has assisted displaced Haitians in the Dominican Republic since 1996 and in the Bahamas since 2001, we are very pleased to be supporting the education of Haitians within Haiti as well. These projects are located in Verettes and in Gonaïves.
In Verettes, Acceso International is providing supplies and education-oriented equipment for a homework centre that is part of a project entitled “Timoun Tèt Ansanm”. This project offers literacy support to at-risk, impoverished and orphaned children. Activities include tutoring sessions, basic literacy and pre-school classes, as well as summer camps. The intention is to enable these children to grow as persons who are free and responsible, builders of peace, committed to changing their world. Our hope is that these students will be able to actively shape their own lives and to take advantage of the rights to which they are entitled.
In Gonaïves, Acceso International is providing support for educational supplies and a much needed meal program at a primary school: École Emmaus Centre St. Joseph where over 700 children and over 200 adults attend daily classes in three different shifts. Acceso International has also assisted this school in its efforts to rebuild after damage caused by a hurricane in 2004.
“Thank you so much for thinking of our poor children in Haiti. Really, it is great help for the school and all the activities that go on here. The school is only for the poor children.” Individual
